Step 1(if the viruses won’t allow you to access the Internet, and/or you are blocked from installing programs go to Step 2) The first thing that you want to try to do is see if you can simply remove the infections with a simple virus scan. Often times the virus protection software on a computer is inefficient, out of date, or just not working for whatever reason. In some cases there isn’t any virus protection software at all. Below are some great programs that will help us in our extermination. And yes, of course, they are free to use. If your computer will allow you to go to the Internet and download programs, download and install the following programs:
Download These Security ToolsMicrosoft Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
Click the Download button and choose your operating system. If you are unsure as to which operating system you have, click on the start button of your computer, right-click on Computer, and select properties. Look for the Windows edition that is listed and the system-type (either 32 bit or 64 bit). Look to the illustrations to see where you get this information. Choose your operating system and the download will begin.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Download the Free version.SuperAntiSpyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/ Usually the above two programs will take off any virus that is thrown at them, but it is always good to include this great program for good measure. Download the FREE EDITION.
Install The ProgramsOnce you have installed the programs you want to scan your computer with each one. I have done them all at the same time and individually and it seems to be just as effective running them at the same time. I would suggest doing this to save time. When you run the programs you want to make sure you DOWNLOAD UPDATES for each program, and that you run a FULL SCAN and not a quick scan.
Run a Full Scan
Download Hirens BootCDFor this step you will need to download an exceptional tool that many IT Pros use on a daily basis. It is called Hirens Boot CD. It is a cd that has dozens of diagnostic tools, and it’s free. You will probably have to go to another computer to get this and burn it to a cd, but once you have it, you can reuse it to your heart's content. Go to the following link: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ Then, scroll down the page until you see the following: Click the highlighted link and start the download. This is a pretty big file, so take a break and come back when it is finished. Once it is downloaded you will have a file that will look something like this: If the icon looks different, don’t worry, it should still be the same file. This is a .zip file. It is a file that can hold many other files. What you need to do is get all the files out, or extract them. Right click on the icon and click extract here. Now you should see some files that look like this:
Burn Hirens BootCD to a DiskFor the next step you will need a blank CD to burn Hirens to. Click on the BurnToCD icon and you will see this menu: The file Image should be the image above, and the device is your CD/DVD burner which should be selected automatically. Hit start, put the CD in the drive, and wait for it to burn... Now you should have a nicely burned Hirens disk.
Boot the Hirens DiskYou now need to boot to the Hirens Disk. The process for this can vary for each computer but usually you need to do the following:
- Restart the computer with Hirens CD in the CD/DVD Drive.
- Hit key F12 and Delete repeatedly (It is usually one or the other) to get to the Boot options.
- Now choose to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
- If this doesnt work, just go to Google and type “Boot to CD Bios” and this will show you how to do it the more “techy” way.
